Video Conference Centre To Be Installed At HMP Durham
As part of its ongoing changes to the prison estate, HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) is aiming to create a network of 'reception prisons' whose primary function will be to serve the courts; HMP Durham became the first such reception prison in May of this year.
In order to support these changes, a new video conferencing centre (VCC) is being installed in HMP Durham. This will allow increased use of virtual hearings, and HMPPS - along with HM Courts & Tribunal Service (HMCTS) and the Probation Service - are working jointly on the technical and business changes needed to support this increase.
On 20 July 2017, between 10.00am and 4.00pm, HMPPS and HMCTS will be hosting an event for defence practitioners at HML Wandsworth in London, to map the current processes and operating systems. The event will also capture how these processes will change in the future and identify any gaps.
