Standard Of Proof Applied By The SDT

The Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT) adjudicates on alleged serious breaches of the rules and regulations applicable to solicitors and their firms. It acts as both a first instance decision maker and considers appeals of decisions made by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Its powers include the ability to impose a fine, order a suspension from practice and to strike a solicitor off the Roll.

As part of a wider consultation later this year, the SDT is expected to review the standard of proof it applies. To help the Law Society respond to this, they have published a discussion paper on which they are seeking members' views.

Please send your responses by Friday 1 December, by emailing regulation@lawsociety.org.uk, or by post to Regulatory Affairs Unit, The Law Society, 113 Chancery Lane, London WC2A 1PL.
