Response To LSB's IGR Review Consultation

Response To LSB's IGR Review Consultation

In November, the Legal Services Board (LSB) published a consultation on its internal governance rules (IGR) for legal services regulators - the review closed earlier this month.

In their response to the consultation, the Law Society said that the review presented an opportunity for the LSB to clarify the requirements and implementation of the IGRs within the current legal framework of the Legal Services Act. The response goes on to state that:

  • Greater clarity within the IGRs would help approved regulators strike the appropriate balance between regulatory independence and regulatory assurance within the Legal Services Act.
  • Clear, targeted IGRs would support both approved regulators and frontline regulators to discharge their roles effectively, and this in turn will improve and underpin public confidence in legal regulation.
