Response To Lords Committee Call For Evidence
The Law Society, City of London Law Society (CLLS) and Fraud Lawyers Association have made a joint submission to the House of Lords ad hoc Select Committee which is reviewing the operation of the Bribery Act.
Among the issues that the committee will examine are:
- The Act's effectiveness;
- whether there has been stricter prosecution of corrupt conduct;
- the Act's impact on SMEs;
- deferred prosecution afreements (DPAs) in relation to bribery
The submission says that the act has had a deterrent effect and that prosecutors need to be better resourced. The small number of DPAs mean that it is difficult to assess their impact.
