Law Society Governance Review

As part of their ongoing governance review, the Law Society has appointed the Good Governance Institiute (GGI) to facilitate the process. GGI were able to join the newly constituted review group at its second meeting and will lead a period of consultation with Council, before working up options for consideration and for wider consultation.

The Law Society seeks confidence that it speaks for our dynamic profession, and it recognises that to do this it must be representative of, and connected to, the profession. President Robert Bourns said:

I hope all will see a determination to ensure that there is a thorough consultation, enabling Council as a whole, with members engaged, to determine how we proceed.

GGI recognise, as I do, that the mechanics of governance [...] will only work if the 'dynamics' (culture, behaviours, etiquette, common purpose, leadership) are aligned. The consultation will include these aspects [and[ look at the relationship between our members, Council and the Executive.
