Campaign For Early Legal Advice
The Law Society is campaigning for legal aid to be re-introduced for early legal advice, particularly in family and housing law. At the heart of the campaign is the simple fact that if you catch a problem early, you've more likely to stop it getting worse - in the legal world, this generally means that problems are also cheaper to address the earlier they are tackled.
However, despite this glaringly obvious fact, most areas of free or subsidised early legal advice were stopped by the government in 2012. The result has been that people who can't afford to pay for early legal advice are now left to address their problems alone - in other words simple problems can get a lot worse, and can create other unnecessary costs for the tax payer.
As part of the campaign, the Law Society have issued this video, and have published research - conducted by Ipsos MORI - that shows a clear statistical link between getting early legal advice and resolving a problem sooner.
